We might be a little bias here since Jenn’s half Guatemalan, but don’t let that sway you when we tell you just how amazing Guatemala is. Located in Central America, Guatemala is a country very rich in culture. It is very unique and not like any of its neighboring countries. The people here are extraordinarily nice, the food is great and there is too much to do in just one trip.
There is something for everyone here. Whether you want lux shopping and stays or adventure and culture emersion, you can find top of line experience for each.

There is not enough space in a blog to talk about all the cool things to do in Guatemala……
Favorite Memory – Seeing the volcanos and learning about the indigenous culture directly from indigenous women!
Accommodations – Rental homes is where it’s at here. We’ve stayed at some nice hotels, but the rental homes have hit it out of the park for us. You want to make sure you find them close to the main tourist towns and you’re golden. We tend to use Airbnb or VRBO, but wherever you can find the deal is best.
Food – Even though there is no shortage of chain restaurants similar to the ones in the states, we highly recommend hitting up local spots. There are amazing restaurants with fresh local ingredients in all the main towns, since it’s basically spring year round, the abundance of fresh produce is taken advantage of. Antigua’s gastronomy scene alone is top notch and you can find hidden gems of just about any kind of food. We personally avoid street food because we have sensitive digestive systems, but if you’re brave, there is great food all around.
Transportation – We highly recommend going with someone who knows. It’s the best way to get the most out of the country. If you prefer to explore without a guide, there are car rental options right at Aurora Airport. We’ve never gone alone since we know people there, but their biggest tip is not driving at night. Front windows are tinted here and generally it’s not safe to be between towns after sundown.
