Washington

Flying into Seattle on a cloudy day gave us our glimpse of the Pacific Northwest. After landing and picking up our rental car, we made our way West through winding roads and beautiful Douglas Fir trees into a quaint little city called Snoqualmie (about 45 minutes East of Seattle).

We were in the area for a few days as part of our honeymoon and had set the time up to be relaxing since we had just driven all over California during the previous week. We were close enough to be able to enjoy Seattle, but far enough away to get all the mellow PNW vibes we had been excited to experience. We explored Snoqualmie Falls, Twin Peaks filming locations, downtown Seattle, Pike Place Fish Market and relaxed at the Salish Lodge and Spa. We talked about moving to Washington while we were there and have wanted to go back ever since we left.

We are looking forward to going back to Washington and have plans to return in 2023. We will probably stay at the Salish Lodge and Spa again, especially if we can find a good deal, but we will have a much more adventurous itinerary next time around. Some of the top things that we want to do are visit Mount Rainier and Olympic National Parks. In the city, we’d like to try a few more good restaurants and go on the Seattle Underground Tour.

We spent most of our time in the city and got the sense that Seattle is more ideal for couples rather than families; however, if your family is into the outdoors, Washington could be a perfect state since the major airport is in Seattle with 2 great national parks and many beautiful state parks nearby!

Favorite Memory – Seeing Seattle from the top of the Great Wheel!

Logistics

AccommodationsWe stayed at the Salish Lodge and Spa and it was really nice. The outside of the hotel and the surrounding city was used for the filming of one of our favorite shows, Twin Peaks.

FoodWe ate most of our food right at the hotel in their restaurant called The Attic – the pizza was awesome – it is stone-fired and artisanal. We tried Cellar Pear and Smoked Prosciutto as well as their BBQ Chicken and Jalapeno pizza. In Seattle, we would recommend The Pink Door and trying out different booths at Pike Place Market, especially the fresh shrimp!

TransportationIf you’re staying in Seattle, you can probably get by without renting a car, but we like to explore and decided to get a rental. We actually took a little detour and went all the way to Vancouver… what, we said we like to explore!

Quick Tips

1
Food Definitely try out the Pike Place Market, everything tastes so fresh, we wanted to try it all!
2
Safety We never felt unsafe, but like any big city, keep your eyes open and stay alert to your surroundings and you should be fine.
3
Activity Taking a ride on The Great Seattle Wheel at sunset was beautiful; it overlooks Elliott Bay and was definitely something we would recommend!
4
Logistics Seattle is known as a rainy city, but we had great weather! We went in May and other than some gloominess on the flight in, it didn’t rain once. July and August are the driest months and November is when the heavy rain season begins.
